wilco poster

I am not really a fan of Wilco but I am totally IN LOVE with this poster for a concert they played in Kansas City - totally fitting for the location.  It is by Mikey Burton and his work is just mind blowing.  He does everything from posters to book cover illustrations to print ads. I just love his design aesthetic.

Check out more at his WEBSITE (I totally dig that poster on the site's main page) and you can buy his work HERE.

photographer: sune czajkowski

Another photographer to fall whose work is amazing.  I stumbled on Sune Czajkoski's website recently and just had to share.

There is such a beautiful 60s and 70s vibe to his fashion compositions and an Ansel Adams vibe to his landscape shots.  I am in lust.

Born in Copenhagen, he grew up in Denmark and West Africa and currently lives in Paris.  His client list is most impressive.

Check out his amazing work HERE.

missed connections: a film

A follow-up to this POST about one of my favorite blogs.

The author and artist, Sophie Blackall describes the project as such:

"Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down."

latest iTunes download - music go music

Lately I have had the fortune to be introduced to some fabulous new music and bands.  Music Go Music, hailing from Los Angeles, is but another example.  Their sound is, well I am not sure if I would call it reminiscient or a tribute to the stylings of ABBA, but it is fun and full of life.  And I am unashamed of saying that I enjoy a good ABBA song.

They are currently touring with Franz Ferdinand, another favorite group.  This is a definite download for me.

flash for fun from diesel

It has been a REALLY long time since I wore Diesel jeans but I may just have to go back and buy myself a pair from their latest collection called Flash For Fun. Four words - - GLOW IN THE DARK!!

These are definitely calling out to me. I have a thing for dragons lately.

The collection, developed by Diesel's creative team headed by Creative Director Wilbert Das, was created for those who play hard day and night, 24 hours non-stop, without taking the time to change in between. A special fluorescent coating, devised to be glaring under UV lights, is layered on denim and cotton. Through this treatment, Flash For Fun pieces are discreet during the day and reveal extremely bright details and stitches at night, presumably at clubs. On denim, hidden graphics are revealed under black lights. Graphics are visible when exposed to darkness thanks to UV lights. Stitches and back patches appear on denim when it’s dark (so go party in them!) together with the distinctive Diesel pocket stripe, presented in a dedicated acid color version.  (from Nitrolicious)

street art by joshua allen harris

Found this at Trend Land.

The entire installation is made from plastic bags and installed over the subway grates around the city. How fun would it be to come across this while walking?

the snood...the holiday season's savior?

According to the Wall Street Journal, stores are betting big on the Snood and its current run of popularity to help save retail sales this holiday season.

eyola

Fashion designer Aloye totally blows my mind.  Her line, called Eyola (Aloye backwards!!) is comprised of designs that are full of old world romance and decadence along with a true modern spirit.

According to her website:
Eyola takes inspiration from the opulent style of the Victorian era with a contemporary twist.  Each collection takes the form of Octettes which comprise of eight individually crafted and distinct designs each with their own personality. The number eight is relevant primarily as the figure ‘8’ reflects the hourglass shape created by the Victorian corset.

The bold colour palette is found throughout the Octettes- this was after all the era when famous chemist William Perkins discovered brightly coloured dyes. Most of the garments are available in a chosen bold colour or in a shadow version of a more classic shade. Each design is limited to a run of eight in a particular fabric or colour.

for the person who has everthing...and i mean EVERYTHING...

OK. So I think Neiman Marcus has finally gone off its rocker.  Every year their Christmas Book catalogue is filled with unique and sometimes weird gift options for people with some serious disposable income.

OK, so the life-sized replica of Luke Skywalker's X-Wing fighter was definitely, well interesting, though the Star Wars fan in me at the time thought it was the coolest thing.  But one could rationalize that it would make a wonderful lawn sculpture for the many incredibly wealthy Jedi Knights out there.

The of course there was the year where they had a jewel-encrusted train set for under one's Christmas tree.  And I do mean jewel-encrusted - it was covered in diamonds. rubies, emeralds and sapphires.

But this...well this really tops the cupcake.

This is the Customized Cupcake Car and for a mere $25,000 it too can be yours!!

It goes 7 miles an hour and will provide you with hours of fun -- at least until the kids get bored and demand yet another pony.

the kouklitas

I have a soft spot for dolls, even today.  I still have the antique Madame Alexandre doll my mom gave me when I was ten years old, it was once hers, along with all the handmade custom clothing that was made especially for the doll by an employee of my grandfather's when my mom was a girl.

Then there are the Kouklitas.  These beautiful creations by Andrew Yang are amazing works of art, but the fun part is that they are meant to be played with.

According to his site, "The Kouklitas are a line of 27” fashion rag dolls conceived by New York City based artist and illustrator Andrew Yang. The name originates from the Greek word for doll, koukla. Each doll is cut from a pattern, sewn into muslin, and meticulously stuffed and attached by hand. The faces are all hand painted, and the dresses are created using luxurious fabrics and couture sewing methods. After a doll is completed, she is named and given a story."

Check out this interview at Trend Land and more pictures after the cut.
