Citizen Kane meets 70s Glam Rock
That is the best way to describe this unlikely amalgamation of an amazing music movement and one of, if not THE greatest film of all time. Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor, Toni Collette, Eddie Izzard and Christian Bale and directed by Todd Haynes, the film is the story of Brian Slade, a star of the Glam Rock scene based loosely on David Bowie.
Using the conventions and structure created in Citizen Kane, Arthur Stuart (Bale), a former devotee and fan of Glam Rock and now a reporter, takes a journey through the life of Brian Slade (Meyers) and the people who shaped his career and life to find out why he disappeared after an ill-fated publicity stunt.
I won't go into the particulars of the plot, but you can read about it HERE and get more information HERE.
I have been listening to the soundtrack NON-STOP all week. The only regret I have about the soundtrack is that it is not the original voices of the actors from the film singing the tracks, with the exception of the '20th Century Boy' by Placebo, who were featured in the film.
