missed connections: a film

A follow-up to this POST about one of my favorite blogs. 



The author and artist, Sophie Blackall describes the project as such:

"Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down."

One of my favorite bloggers, Garance Doré posted some amazing video last week, that unfortunately I cannot embed here, from the Guy Bourdin film exhibition at Bon Marché.

I really wish I could have been in Paris to see this in person.  Here is how Garance described it:

Sublime. A true study in weightlessness. No use trying to describe it for words could do no justice. I loved the circular mise en scène, loved the Ariel Wizman soundtrack, loved getting a glimpse backstage - so happy, so fresh, loved seeing Guy Bourdin shooting in a shopping cart.

But above all, I loved the saturation of colors, smiles, the memory of these years of freedom, where provocation was a game, where sensuality overflowed with humor and no one was afraid to shock.

do you always sit in a circle of asian girls? and sit at the top of the stairs so everyone gets a crush on you when they get to the roof?

vena cava 2010

Vena Cava just release pictures from their recent show during Fashion Week here in New York.  They attribute their inspiration to the Ndeble tribe, 90's Versace and Maude Lebowski.

I can definitely see Maude rockin' these looks in her studio in between painting nude from a zip line.
