I seem to be on a photography kick right now and I have another photographer who has definitely made an impression on me - Jason Lee Parry.

I love the 70s and 80s vibe of his pictures.

missed connections

I was recently directed to this blog called Missed Connections and had to check it out when I read the description. The author and artist, Sophie Blackall describes the project as such:

"Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. drinking the 'where the wild things are' kool-aid

I have been following the development of this film since it was first announced that Spike Jonze would be at the helm and have been waiting impatiently for October 16 to come.

To be totally honest, it was never a favorite book when I was little, I think it scared me a bit but as a 'grown up', I can definitely appreciate the beauty of the story and drawings. I will definitely have to get this book for my neice for her 1st birthday. Every kid should have a copy in their library.

What I have seen of this film so far has blown me away. The whole world that Spike has created is one of wonder and discovery. You can visit the official website HERE

Have spent the morning oogling a website I just found called My Vintage Vogue. It is filled with classic photos, covers, illustrations, etc. from fashion magazines throughout the decades.  I can't stay away, despite being at work right now.

how useless knowledge comes in handy when you least expect it

I want to share a post from the blog of one of my favorite authors, Lauren Willig.  She blogs a bit on the history of England's George III as well as an incident that occurred when she was in law school.  It is amazing how random useless knowledge can come in handy at the most opportune times.  

Check out the short anecdote on her blog.  

Also check out her novels.  She crafts fun and witty stories that are a mix of historical drama, mystery, romance and comedy.  My personal favorite is The Seduction of the Crimson Rose with The Masque of the Black Tulip a close second.

vena cava 2010

Vena Cava just release pictures from their recent show during Fashion Week here in New York.  They attribute their inspiration to the Ndeble tribe, 90's Versace and Maude Lebowski.

I can definitely see Maude rockin' these looks in her studio in between painting nude from a zip line.

disco dancing darcy...and the conga

Pride and Prejudice is one of my absolute favorite stories.  Elizabeth Bennett and Fitzwilliam Darcy are one of the greatest couples of classic literature and Jane Austen, ahead of her time.

This clip from series 3 of the British sketch show, That Mitchell and Webb Look takes a classic discourse between Eliza, Caroline Bingley and Darcy and completely turns it on its head - not to mention a Disco dance that looks like...well, you'll see.

I suggest that if you are at work, close the door to your office, you may scare your co-workers by falling off your chair laughing.

I am going to have to check out more of this show.  I really wish SNL were more like this show and others from Europe and Canada.  They are so much more creative in their ideas.  I really miss The Kids in the Hall.
